Prices could rise to offset Jersey business waste charge
Jersey businesses say they might have to put their prices up, to offset the cost of a new waste charge.
Island companies will pay the new levy from 2018, which will eventually net the government an extra £11 million a year.
The waste charge was announced as part of the government’s controversial savings plan, known as the MTFP.
The hospitality industry is among those speaking out about the new charge, saying hotels, bar and restaurants are already struggling.
Guest house owner, Geoff Mayger, has described it as ‘another indirect tax.’
